THE EPRDF CONTINUES TO MISREPRESENT REALITY TO OIL COMAPNIES |
August 12, 2006
The recent claims by the Ethiopian government that they have captured "senior commanders" of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has no basis in reality and borders on fantasy.
The EPRDF regime led by Melez Zenawi has undoubtedly fabricated this accusation to put the concerns of foreign oil companies such as PETRONAS at ease by creating the false impression that they are in effective control of Ogaden.
The ONLF wishes to make clear to the international community that while regular armed clashes take place between ONLF forces and EPRDF troops, no recent incident has resulted in the capture of ONLF commanders of any member of the armed forces of the ONLF.
The EPRDF regime has for some months now embarked on a futile military solution in Ogaden after rejecting the ONLF's call for dialogue in a neutral country and in the presence of a third party entity of international standing.
The ONLF wishes to further clarify that the false accusation by the minority EPRDF regime that ONLF forces entered Ogaden from Somalia is intended to justify the illegal presence of Ethiopian troops on Somali soil.
